He battles AIDS on a world stage
Health care is more than treating individual sufferers—it involves working with entire communities to prevent the spread of a disease. Alan Lifson has been fighting AIDS for more than 25 years as a medical epidemiologist. He has trained physicians, researched HIV and established treatment centers and prevention programs in Africa, Eastern Europe, Asia and the Caribbean.

Currently researching AIDS and teaching at the University of Minnesota, Alan plans on returning to Africa—the center of the global AIDS epidemic—to scale up HIV treatment in the poorest countries and communities. He strongly believes that all individuals have the right to good health care and to be treated with dignity and respect.
