He looks for new ways to spot germs
Knowing what causes an illness is the first step to getting proper treatment and saving lives. Norman Moore, the Research and Development Director at Inverness Medical in Maine, finds new ways to detect bacteria and viruses in clinical samples. This lets doctors diagnose and treat disease more quickly and effectively. The test Norman developed for Legionella significantly reduced the number of people dying from that disease.

Norman has always loved science, especially microbiology. An internship with a diagnostics development company during college helped put Norman on his career path. He feels that a love of learning and empathy for others have helped him tremendously. His personal philosophy comes from a plaque he received in Sunday School, “Become the one you dream you can be.”
